Advocacy and Support for Gifted Students

The Florida Association of the Gifted provides support for programs that are educationally sound, such as BLUECUBE Aerospace.  FLAG works with member of the local, state and nationally agencies reach objectives in gifted education.    This is done through information exchanges, promoting research, supporting constructive changes to gifted education that benefits and supports gifted learners throughout Florida. Kevin Simmons, Founder of BLUECUBE Aerospace is the By-Law Chair.

Florida Association of the Gifted Annual Conference will be hosting the National Association of Gifted Children Annual Conference in Orlando,  November 2020

67th Annual Conference – The conference has over 250 educational session to choose from.  Join over 2,000 educators, parents, policymakers, from all over the world to support gifted learners.  There will be product reviews as well as networking events  to enjoy.

Scholarships

 

Gifted Learners

Dr. James Thurman Webb Honorary Award Scholarship

Established in 2019, this award is a FLAG certificate of excellence and up to $500 for anyone who has gone above and beyond to support the social-emotional needs of K-12 gifted learners.

Applicants can students, educators, mental health professionals, or members of the community.

Nicholas Green Distinguished Student Award

Originally funded by the Nicholas Green Foundation and the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC), this award program is designed to recognize distinguished achievement in academics, leadership, or the arts, in children entering grades 3 through 6 (during the 2019-20 school year).  One child per state can be named a Nicholas Green Distinguished Student and that winner receives a $500 U.S. savings bond and a Certificate of Excellence.

The Scobee Scholarships

Established to honor the memory of Dick Scobee, Commander of NASA’s Space Shuttle Challenger, this annual award is for TWO $1,000 scholarships for one male and one female gifted learner. Candidates must be interested in pursuing a career in a STEM profession.

Educators

Award for Excellence in Creative Teaching

FLAG established this award to recognize teachers of the gifted that construct creative learning environments in which students and teachers alike explore, imagine and engage in a variety of thought provoking experiences.

Classroom  Teacher Mini  Grant

Teachers of gifted students (grades K through 12) in the State of Florida who are a member in good standing of FLAG are eligible to apply for a Creative Classroom Mini-Grant. This program is meant to promote new and creative teaching strategies. The individual grant amount is up to $500.
